Miss Representation
This Thursday, October 20, at 9 PM, "Miss Representation," a documentary about the exploitation of women in the media is airing on Oprah's OWN channel. If you can't tune in then, Feminists @ UVM is planning a screening on November 14 at 7 PM. Watch the trailer here:

That Takes Ovaries & the film Mother
Hey everyone!
That Takes Ovaries is a two day event at the Royal Tyler Theater this weekend (Oct. 15 and 16). On Saturday there will be dramatic scene reading and an open mic, and on Sunday a presentation on world wide sex trafficking will be held at 1:30 by the author of That Takes Ovaries: Bold Females and their Brazen Acts, Bobbi Ausbel. This is a free event, so get on over there!
Another event to attend at UVM this month is a screening of the film Mother - a film on population growth that comes out only a few days before the number of human inhabitants on Earth reaches 7 billion. That's right - on October 31st, there will be seven billion human beings on Earth. Go see Mother on October 25th at 7:30 at the Fleming Museum, Room 101, and visit http://www.motherthefilm.com to find out more about it until then!

Hello everyone,
Welcome to the Feminists @ UVM blog! We have now ventured into the world of internet.
This was a good week for spreading awareness at UVM - Anita and Emily tabled in the sunny pathway outside the Davis Center, selling baked goods to raise money for the club's fund-raise account and asking passerby to fill out a one question survey ("A feminist is...______"). We can't wait to read all the answers and let you know what we heard! Everyone who filled out the survey was given a quarter sheet defining feminism (in pretty broad terms) and also had information about our meeting times. While this tabling event was going on, students nearby showed solidarity for the Occupy Wall street movement by holding a speak-out outside the library, and will continue to meet there at 1:00 pm daily as part of Occupy UVM.
Anita and Emily were also documented by the "Day in the Life" post by UVM communications here at 2:26 pm, and their pal Sydney was as well at 1:01 pm!
